Master Service Program

 The Master Service Program was initiated in 1998 and is a professional certification program offered by The McGregor Company.  It is a voluntary program providing a base level of standard for highly skilled and motivated individuals in a service technician role through an essay application and raising that standard through continuing education.

Application Process:

§  Each applicant will request an application form from their supervisor.  This form is available to all employees and can also be found on the company intranet.

§  Applicant should keep a copy of the completed application and send original to:

§  Applicant’s supervisor(s) will complete a similar questionnaire that will be provided to them from the program administrator and it, too, needs to be sent to the above address.

§  Applications are reviewed once per year, due October 1st.

§  Once it is determined that the applicant meets the minimum qualifications, the application will be forwarded to the review panel for determination of final qualification. 

  

Qualifications:

§  A minimum four years of service with The McGregor Company, or three years of service with The McGregor Company plus two years of similar work experience with another company in our industry is required.  Participation in this program is limited to employees whose primary job responsibilities are service technician duties.  Any exceptions, for those who have shared job responsibilities, will be evaluated and a final determination made by the Master Service review panel.

§  Ongoing positive customer relations to be evaluated by supervisors

§  Maintenance of continuing education requirements.  Annual requirements will include participation in at least 2 training events annually with a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education credit.  These continuing education requirements are in addition to any requirements necessary to maintain current certifications; i.e. pesticide licenses, CDL, etc.

§  Good relationship with peers.  The ability to be a team player and consistently work as part of that team.

§  The ability to motivate and coach peers. 

§  Securing and maintaining a pesticide operator and/or consultant license.

§  A thorough understanding of basic service technician responsibilities and consistent performance at levels above base standards.

§  Complete knowledge of products used at employee’s base of operations including chemical and fertilizer materials.  This is to include appropriate safety information and use of Material Safety Data Sheets.

§  Thorough knowledge of operation and repair of all application equipment normally used by the applicant’s branch.  This should include all pumps and specialized equipment owned or normally operated at that location, including electronic meters and flow controls.

§  The ability to troubleshoot and repair this equipment in the field as well as the shop.  Additional consideration will be given to employee’s ability to assist others with troubleshooting via radio or telephone from a remote site.

§  The continuing commitment to high quality work, both functionally and aesthetically.

§  Active commitment to safety and environmental excellence, from a personal, branch and overall company perspective.

§  Applicants must posses the welding and fabrication skills necessary to perform at an above average level as demonstrated by field repairs and in shop projects.

§  Applicants must be familiar with, and accurately complete, all required paperwork associated with their job functions.

§  Applicants must have the knowledge and ability to calculate necessary mixes with a consistently high degree of accuracy

§  Applicant must hold a Class B (or A) Commercial Drivers License with endorsements for Haz-Mat, Airbrakes and Tanks

§  To achieve the rank of Master Service the applicant must be a demonstrated self starter.

§  A Master Service technician must consistently display a positive attitude, pride and dedication.  This is an ongoing judgment made by all who have professional contact.

 

Special Skills And Contributions:

§  Additional consideration may be given to applicant’s special skills and contributions.  These may include welding certifications, hydraulics training, diesel mechanics, small engine repair, electronics, or other specializations that allow the employee to perform at a higher level.

§  Specialized duties will also be considered; i.e. custom application, grain bin fumigation, etc.

 

Re-Certification:

§  All Master Service technicians will be required to re-certify every two years if they desire to maintain that designation and the associated benefits.  The re-certification process will consist of:

·      Reapplication (using a shortened application form)

·      Completion of 60 hours of continuing education (30 hours per year).

§  Continued growth and development as demonstrated by continuing education and associated opportunities.

·      The Master Service review panel will evaluate all re-certifications.

 

Recognition For Obtaining Master Service Designation:

§  Recognition will include the addition of the Master Service logo on hats, shirts and other clothing items as appropriate. 

§  A certificate or plaque will be awarded upon initial certification.

§  Those who obtain the Master Service designation will be acknowledged in the company newsletter, at customer meetings and may also be recognized in local newspapers 

§  A monetary bonus of $1,000.00 will be presented upon acceptance into this program.  This bonus will also be awarded to Master Service technicians upon completion of each successful re-certification.

 

Code Of Conduct:

To be considered for the Master Service designation the candidate must have the trust and respect of peers and customers.  This mutual respect and trust is critical to the overall success of the team.  These individuals must remember that they are representing not only themselves, but the entire McGregor team in everything they do.
